Introducing ACREO’s Operations Supervisor, Steven Mackay, who joined the team in December 2024. With six months under his belt, Steven has already become a pivotal part of our operations team, bringing decades of hands-on experience, practical knowledge, and a strong work ethic to every project.
Steven’s professional journey began with a six-year stint as a Plant Mechanic for JCB in Aberdeen, where he built a solid foundation in machinery and equipment. He then joined the family business, D&E Mackay Contractors Ltd, where he spent 25 years specialising in groundworks & civil engineering. His next role took him to a local plant company as Transport & Plant Manager, where he honed his skills in logistics and asset management for over two and a half years. Now at ACREO, Steven brings this wealth of experience to support our diverse projects across the UK.
As Operations Supervisor, Steven’s day-to-day includes allocating daily labour across sites, pricing materials, handling quantity take-offs, and ensuring timely material ordering for both ongoing and upcoming jobs. He also takes on site visits for estimating smaller projects and oversees elements of contract management—making sure projects run smoothly from planning to execution.
When he’s not on-site or managing logistics, Steven enjoys the outdoors with his five Staffie dogs, which he walks daily and breeds occasionally. Family is central to his life, and he enjoys time spent with his daughter and wife, especially outdoors or cycling together.
Steven's is also keen to encourage the younger generation in construction and his advice for anyone starting their professional journey in construction is simple:
“Don’t be scared to get your hands dirty and get stuck in. Learn the job from the bottom up. There are plenty of prospects for progression in construction—you don’t need to start off with a degree.”
